Benka Gyula 1838 - 1923

His parents were teachers. He studied in many foreign universities then he came to Szarvas. For more then half a century he was the leader and active participant of the public and cultural life, the organization of the Hungarian teacher education and the teacher and directoractivities. The establishment of the Singing Circle of Szarvas and the new building of the grammar school are connected to his name.
