Dr. Melich János 1872 - 1963

He was born in Szarvas. At his family home the Slovak and the Hungarian languages were spoken. This bilingualism motivated and helped him to be an expert of the Slavonic studies in Europe. There are 3 main areas of his work: he worked up the history of the old Hungarian dictionary literature; he worked with the old period of Hungarian spelling; the main area of his etymology research is Slavonic-Hungarian language interactions.
